New Families Meet information
This email is detailed information about the swim meet for new families. Please be sure to read the other email too, but this is a little more detail. It seems like a lot of information, don't worry, just come and we'll help you through it.
This week we will meet at 4 to take the team picture, otherwise warm ups will begin at 5 (5:30 for away meets). The meet officially begins at 6 and usually lasts until around 9:30.
Wednesday morning at practice, Coach Theo will post the tentative lineup for the meet. Find me or another experienced family to explain what they mean. If you have any problems, find ME (not the coach) and we can work through it.
We will send an email early afternoon with the final lineup. With a Sharpie (yes really) You will write your child's name and age on their back. Then on their arm you will write their event number, lane and heat. This is so we can help locate your child and get the in the right place at the right time. (FYI, sharpie comes off with sunscreen)
For example: if my child is swimming in event # 27 freestyle, heat 1 lane 2. Then event 49, IM heat 1 lane 4, and event 69, butterfly, heat 2, lane 4
I will write this on her arm:
#27 / 25 free / 1 / 2
#49 / IM / 1 / 4
#69 / 25 fly / 2 / 4
We have concessions (this is the major fund raiser for the team). We sell Chick-fil-A sandwiches, Pizza - Papa John's, nachos, Greek salad, baked goodes, chips and of course, CANDY! Please bring money and a big appetite.
Don't forget your child's goggles and a swim cap. We have East Hampton caps for $3 if you want one for your child.
Pay Attention! The meet moves pretty fast and can seem a little overwhelming the first time. Don't be afraid to ask a more experienced family what is going on. We were all first timers once. Just keep an eye on the event board and have your child go down to the diving block end of the pool 5 events prior to their event.
Have Fun!! Meets are hectic, but very fun! Make sure your kid knows it's a long night, but filled with lots of excitement. Once your child is finished with their last event, you are welcomed to take them home, but please not before. The later events are often relays, and if you leave early, you can affect 3 other kid's races, or if they are in a scoring lane, you can cause the team to lose points.
Thanks and feel free to ask questions!
Courtney
